The widow of Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, Hajiya Aminatu Bintu, has died in Kaduna at the age of 88, after a brief illness.

Hajiya Aminatu was the stepmother of a Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Dr Ahmad Abubakar Gumi.

Confirming the death to Daily Trust on Sunday, Dr Ahmad Gumi said she died at the 44 Army Reference Hospital yesterday.

“She died after a brief illness. May Allah forgive her, Amin,” he said.

The funeral, which took place around 4:30pm at her late husband’s residence, was led by her son, Dr Hamza Gumi.

Our correspondent who attended the funeral reports that many dignitaries, among them, the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli and a former deputy governor of Zamfara State, Ibrahim Wakala.

The secretary of the Sultan Bello Pupils Association, Zubairu Shan’una, described the deceased as an ideal mother and prayed for Allah to grant her paradise.

Hajiya Aminatu was the mother of Brigadier Abdulkadir Abubakar Gumi (retd) and Dr Hamza Gumi.
