Controversial Kano cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, has dragged the Kano state government and the police in the state to the court for the enforcement of his fundamental human rights.
The cleric approached a Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Wednesday, seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the state government and the police from continuously closing his mosque and banning him from preaching.

The respondents in the suit include the Kano State Government, the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Police.
Meanwhile, the court, presided over by Justice Lewis Allagoa, has adjourned the case to February 18 and directed that the motion be served on the respondents before the next adjourned date.
The Kano State government last week debarred the Khadiriya cleric from preaching over what it described as his incendiary mode of preaching.
It also closed his mosque indefinitely and banned all media houses from airing his sermons.
However, Sheikh Abduljabbar in a motion on notice filed before the court challenged the action of the state, insisting that his rights to freedom of expression, movement and peaceful assembly are being violated.
