Shehu Sani, the Senator representing Kaduna Central has condemned the raid of Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, Borno State by armed soldiers on Sunday.
Daily Trust had reported that the soldiers shut the gate of its Maiduguri regional office, after arresting the two editorial staff on sight at the time of the raid.
Reacting, Sani while commending the soldiers for their service to Nigeria, described the siege as an act of ‘dictatorship’.
The Kaduna lawmaker on his Twitter page wrote: “We appreciate the service and sacrifice of our troops on the front line. However, the siege on the Daily Trust and the arrest of Journalists is an affront on freedom,reminiscent of the era of dictatorship.
“Complains against the media should be presented to their Unions or Press Council.”
