Comrade Mohammed Mohammed Shafas, has been declared winner as duly elected as chairman of the FCT wing of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) during the 7th quadrennial delegates conference, which was held amid tight security at Government Secondary School (GSS) Kuje, Abuja on Wednesday.
Declaring the result, the returning officer in the election, Labaran Garba, said Comrade Mohammed Shafas, polled 243 votes to defeat two other aspirants, Ngbonzigi G Dorkat and Adamu D. Adamu, who got 4,101 and 24 votes respectively.

Among other officials that declared winners include Dr Paul Akpan (deputy chairman), Abubakar Mohammed (vice chairman I), John Josephine (vice chairman II), Samson Haruna (vice chairman III), Lami Tanko (vice chairman iv) and Ameh Mahmud (treasurer).
Comrade Shafas, in his acceptance speech, appreciated the delegates for the confidence they had in him.
He called on the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to give more priority to the welfare and benefits of primary and secondary school teachers in the territory.
