Seun kuti: I’m not close to my first child

Seun, one of the sons of Afrobeat maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, has opened up on his private life with his first daughter.

In a recent interview with media personality Timi Agbaje, the Afrobeats musician spoke about the delight of parenting.

He discussed the strain with his first daughter, with whom he has no relationship due to a lack of communication with her mother.

He said: “The greatest thing I have ever achieved is becoming a father, having my daughter, being with her, and raising her. I have two kids but I’m not really close to my other daughter but to have the joy of that is the greatest achievement of my life for sure.”

Not clear by the statement, the interviewee asked, “How? Do you have two daughters but you’re close to one and not the other? Were you a single father before you married?”

Seun responded: “No, it’s complicated circumstances; no family is perfect, you know, but I’m not close to the mother of my other daughter. I wasn’t married when I had my other daughter.”

Born in 1983, Kuti became interested in music at the age of five, by the time he turned nine, he had started playing with his father’s band, Egypt 80.

After Fela Kuti’s death in 1997, Seun Kuti took the role of leading Egypt 80.

In 2008, the band released an album called ‘Many Things;. This was the first album released under the moniker Seun Kuti and Egypt 80.

In 2014, he was given an honorary invitation to perform live for the first time at the Industry Nite.
