Senior citizens deserve attention – Group

An elderly care service provider, GeroCare, said it has recorded 29,539 elderly patients and ‘Senior Citizens’ across Africa, saying senior citizens deserve more care and attention.

This was disclosed by the Co-Founder CEO GeroCare, Dr Ebi Ofrey, at GeroCare’s 5th anniversary held in Lagos.

According to him, GeroCare has served as a one-stop shop for elderly care in the last five years; providing them with whatever care they need to stay healthy.

He stated that GeroCare has crossed a huge milestone, celebrating five years, and looks forward to a greater future.

Ofrey said, “We do not just provide care, we allow you to follow the care from wherever you are; such that you can look into the GeroCare app on your phone and see how your parents have been fairing overtime.

“We make it extremely easy for Nigerians all over the world to provide regular doctor visits and home medical care for their parents in any city in Nigeria.”

COO and CoFounder GeroCare, Dr. Ajibola Meraiyebu said that GeroCare specialized majorly in geriatrics because they felt it was a missing link in Nigeria.

He added that GeroCare came up to fill the space of elderly care because most of the systems in the country “do not take care of the elderly.”

He said, “Even the health insurance schemes end at a certain age. After which these elderly ones are left at their own mercy.”

He stated that in the last five years, GeroCare has successfully catered for over 15,000 elderlies through their outreach models, adding that the brand also has presence in Ethiopia, South Africa and other African countries with similar demographics as Nigeria.

He also called on the government to make available policy driven interventions in favour of the elderlies.
