Senators yesterday proceeded on their annual recess without confirming the appointment of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, four members of the commission and the 47 ambassadorial nominees.
Daily Trust on Sunday had exclusively reported that the senators were plotting to delay the confirmation of Magu and the ambassadorial nominees for eight weeks.
The senators at the end of yesterday’s plenary announced that their annual recess would last till September 13.
However, before embarking on the recess, the senators referred the confirmation of the ambassadorial nominees to the committee on Foreign Affairs for further legislative action.
Announcing the recess, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, urged the senators to use the period to work on bills and reports before them.
Their spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the confirmation would be done when they resume in September.
The letter for Magu’s confirmation which was received by the office of the Senate President on June 22 was read last penultimate Thursday by Saraki.
The list of the ambassadorial nominees was sent to the Senate on June 9.
