Senator Arthur Nzeribe dies at 83

Marverick politician and former Senator, Arthur Nzeribe, is dead.

A statement signed by three members of his family, Ojiabu Francis Anyegbu Nzeribe, Anthony Akpati Nzeribe and Ojiabu Oliver Nwedo Nzeribe, on behalf of the Nzeribe confirmed the death of the octogenarian.

The statement said, “The Nzeribe Royal Family of Umudei Royal Village of Oguta in the Oguta Local Government area of Imo State, in total submission to the will of God Almighty and in appreciation of a remarkably worthy life herey announce the death of our son, cousin, Uncle, husband, father and Grandfather, Distingsuhed Senator Chief Francis Arthur Uzoma Nzeribe (Ogbuabu Oshiji, Dimanze, Oyimbaof Oguta on the 5th of May ,2022 at the age of 83.

Nzeribe, a multi-billionaire investment mogul, was born in Oguta, Imo State on 2 November 1938 to a lawyer father, Oyimba Nzeribe.

His second wife is the sister of Hajia Asabe Yar’Adua, wife of the late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, who was brother of President Umaru Yar’Adua.

Nzeribe was famous for the formation of the famous Association for a Better Nigeria (ABN), which backed General Ibrahim Babangida in scuttling the worldwide acknowledged “June 12 election” that would have brought in the billionaire, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola as the popularly elected president. MKO later died in General Sani Abacha’s gulag.

His family said burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
