Senate seat: I won’t step down for Gov Bello – Sen Sabi

The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, has dismissed the claims that he has withdrawn from contesting the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Niger North senatorial seat.

Senator Sabi said the claim was mischievous and handiwork of those who were afraid of his popularity and political strength among his constituents.

He spoke in New-Bussa, the headquarters of Borgu LGA of Niger State, where he addressed party delegates and supporters ahead of the primaries.

He said, “My presence here before you, men and women of goodwill, is to affirm that I am still very much in the race for the Niger North senatorial seat. I have not withdrawn and I have no intention to withdraw.”

He further said it would amount to “political betrayal” of his constituents who purchased nomination forms for him if he decided to withdraw from the race for any reason, noting that he was not moved by the number of aspirants jostling for his seat at the senate.

Daily Trust reports that the state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, is also contesting the APC ticket for the Niger North senatorial seat.

Recently, the governor claimed that some aspirants for the same position had withdrawn from the race to show him solidarity.
