The Senate, on Wednesday, asked its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to probe the alleged lopsidedness in the appointment of members of the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
This followed a petition to the Red Chamber by a human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, through the Senate minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.
- History won’t be kind to Buhari if Nigeria breaks up – CAN
- Governors unanimous on killing of all bandits, terrorists – El-Rufai
Falana, in the petition, alleged that in constituting the governing council members, no member of that council is from the North East zone and that three members out of four representing the Northwest zone are from Kebbi State.
He, therefore, urged the Senate to look into the matter in the interest of national unity and the country’s constitution.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan referred the petition to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to report back in two weeks.
