A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Alhaji Muhammadu Murtala, has urged the party’s top echelon to zone the office of senate president of the 10th assembly to the North West.

Murtala made the call on Thursday in an interview with newsmen in Kaduna, saying the North West deserved the position looking at the number of votes it gave the party during the presidential election of February 25.

He specifically said Senator Jibril Barau from Kano State should be made the senate president of the 10th Assembly.

But Chairman of the Forum of Presidential Support Committee (PSC), Elijah Ettah, has backed Senator Godswill Akpabio as the race for the leadership of the 10th senate hots up.

Ettah told newsmen in Abuja on Thursday that Akpabio from the South-South was the best man for the job.

He said, “It’s important that Sen Godswill Akpabio from the South South should occupy the seat of the senate president. It’s rather surprising that some people from the South East are clamouring for the senate presidency as if it’s their birthright.”

He noted that the 10th senate ought to be presided over by someone like Akpabio who had the needed legislative experience, one with a proven track record of delivery on responsibilities.
