Senator Akume (APC, Benue North) is one of the contenders for the position of president of Senate in the 8th assembly.
The group said it believed Akume stoods out among other contenders for the position, calling on the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure his emergence as president of the Senate.
The group, in a statement issued by its national chairman, Mustapha D. Sani, hinged its support for Akume on his track record in public service as a two-term governor and Senate minority leader for eight years as well as his “impeccable pedigree.”
“It is on record that Senator Akume was instrumental to the survival of the Bank of the North, now Unity Bank, when he was governor of Benue State, otherwise, the North wouldn’t have a bank of its own.”
