A group, the Coalition of Concerned Niger Delta stakeholders has denied endorsing the aspiration of Godswill Akpabio for the next Senate President.
The group said it is seriously kicking against the APC’s choice of backing the former Akwa Ibom governor as the preferred candidate for office of the President of the 10th National Assembly.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Odiedim Amachree, president of the group, said the former minister of Niger Delta is not fit to occupy the position.
The group therefore endorsed Abdulaziz Yari, former Governor of Zamfara State, saying: “Abdulaziz Yari wields the magic wand and indeed remains the one to beat in our view and considered opinion.
“He is a lover of this nation, a fulfilled politician, a man that can be trusted. We therefore believe the Senators should be allowed to choose their leadership without any external influence whatsoever.”
Nwisabari Bani, a youth stakeholder of the group said the 10th Senate needed a pragmatic leadership that would create a synergy for the executive to deliver in its mandate.
According to him, Yari represents that candidate who would speak truth to power and ensure that all Nigerians enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He called on members of the senate to reject Akpabio and vote Yari as their president.
