The Senate on Tuesday passed for third reading a bill to establish Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia, Kaduna State.
The bill for the establishment of the university was sponsored by the Senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Marshall Katung.
The Senate had received and considered the report of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND on the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Manchok (Establishment) Bill, 2024 presented by its chairman, Senator Mohammed Dandutse Muntari (Katsina South) before passing the bill.
Senator Dandutse said from the views expressed by the stakeholders at the public hearing and subsequent analysis of both oral and written presentations of memoranda, the committee observed that passing the bill would be in the interest of the people of the area and Nigeria at large.

“The establishment of the federal university will reduce the ills around the national economy and de-escalate chances of entrenching heinous criminal activities being perpetrated by men of the underworld,” he added.
Daily Trust reports that the bill had passed second reading and was referred to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund on May 7, 2024.
The committee later held a public hearing where all stakeholders including traditional rulers and many others gave nod for the passage of the bill.
