President Goodluck Jonathan had in July nominated Anohu-Amazu to the Senate for confirmation, nine days after signing into law the Pension Reform Act 2014 which paved way for her nomination by reducing the years of experience required of a director general of PenCom from 20 years to 15.
She has been holding the position of acting director general since December 2012 when the previous DG left on the expiration of his tenure.
Her acting appointment sparked succession crisis at PenCom given that she was due to retire at the time, having served for eight years as company secretary on the level of director.
On November 20, 2013, President Jonathan appointed her as PenCom commissioner representing the South East, but she continued to serve as acting DG.
With the confirmation of her appointment by the Senate yesterday, Mrs Anohu-Amazu is expected to serve a renewable term of five years as substantive DG.
