The letter from the President reads: “Pursuant to Section 238(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Honourable Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem as the President of the Court of Appeal of Nigeria.
“It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.”
Earlier, presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu issued a statement announcing that her name has been forwarded to the Senate on Monday.
He had earlier explained why there was a delay in her confirmation.
A former governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Dangiwa Umar (Rtd), recently, alleged that appointments were skewed in favour of the North.
“All those who wish you and the country well must mince no words in warning you that Nigeria has become dangerously polarised and risk sliding into crisis on account of your administration’s lopsided appointments, which continues to give undue preference to some sections of the country over others,” he had said in the letter addressed to the president.
