Senate gets budget report, adjourns for Easter break

The Senate on Thursday received the report of the 2019 budget estimates from the Appropriation Committee.
The budget report was initially billed to be laid on the floor of the Senate last Thursday, but that did not happen as some of the Senate committees did not conclude work on their reports.
But at Wednesday’s plenary, the chairman of the Appropriation Committee Sen Mohammed Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe), laid the report at exactly 3:30.pm.
Though it was thought that the budget would be considered at the same time, that did not happen.
Rather, Senate President Bukola Saraki announced that the Senate would adjourn plenary to next Wednesday, April 24.
The break is to mark the Easter celebration, which will take place between Friday and Monday.
Saraki had two weeks ago announced that the Senate would pass the 2019 budget on April 16. With the latest development, the budget could only be passed next week.
