The Senate will today debate the killing of a Briton, Faye Mooney, and a Nigerian at the Kajuru Castle in Kaduna on Friday.
Sen Shehu Sani, who represents Kaduna Central, brought the matter to the floor of the Senate under personal explanation, which did not require any contribution based on Senate rules.
He said the killing of Mooney and a Nigerian by suspected kidnappers at the Kajuru Castle should be condemned by the Senate even as a minute of silence was observed in their honour.
However, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu (PDP, Enugu) said the issue has a lot of diplomatic implications and that a substantive motion be brought on the matter.
Supporting the deputy senate president, Sen Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno), said the issue of insecurity was becoming the order of the day and going out of hand, saying”We should go beyond just observing a minute of silence.”
On his part, Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) said: “I think the Senate can take a resolution including sending a delegation to the British High Commission in Nigeria to sympathise with them. As a Senate, we should continue to engage the Executive to see how we can find a lasting solution to this.”
It was then agreed that the matter would be debated on the floor of the Senate today.
