The Senate Committee on Sports has appointed an astute sports administrator, Bashir Hayatu Abubakar, as its consultant.
According to the letter of appointment signed by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila Ph.d, the Kano State born sports administrator has been charged to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.
“You are expected, with the wealth of experience garnered over the years at your disposal to bring this assignment to an enviable level of professionalism, and also demonstrate a higher level of ethical standards in the discharge of your responsibilities.
“The Chairman on behalf of the Committee members and the Secretariat anticipate relishing a robust working relationship with you whilst you work harmoniously with the Clerk to the Committee for efficient and effective service delivery towards achieving the Committee’s statutory obligations,” the letter reads in part.

Abubakar, who holds a Masters of Art (MA) from City University of London, United Kingdom, is a renowned sports administrator who has served the sector in various capacities.
He was once a management member of Katsina United; protocol officer to the Chairman of the NFA; Chief Protocol Officer during the 1999 FIFA U-20 World Championship in Nigeria; Protocol Officer at 2013 AFCON in South Africa; member of Nigeria delegation to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan and was a member of Protocol, transportation, accommodation, venue and accreditation during 2019 FIFA U-17 Championship in Nigeria.
Abubakar was also a member of Kano State Basketball Association; board member Kano State Football Association; vice-chairman Wambai United FC Kano, among others.
Therefore, the well-travelled and highly experienced sports administrator is expected to hit the ground running as a Consultant to the Senate Committee on Sports.
