The Senate Leader, Dr Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, has sponsored the vaccination of 1.4 million livestock against two major trans-boundary diseases in six local government areas of Yobe Zone C, Yobe State.

The vaccination exercise was on Contagious Bovine Pluro Pneumonia (CBPP) for cattle and Pest Petit Ruminants (PPR) for sheep and goats.

The Senate leader who is also the Chairman, SAIL Foundation, flagged off the vaccination exercise on Saturday in Gashua, saying the gesture was to check and safeguard the health of indigenous animals and those migrating into the state.

He explained that cattle rustling in Northwest and the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State had forced numerous pastoralists to migrate to Yobe for safety, which constituted great danger to the health of the animals in the state.

“We have taken this proactive measure of administering vaccines to protect our animals from these diseases and for healthy meat and diary production,” he said.

The manager, Yobe Livestock Programme, Dr Mustapha Gaidam, appreciated the lawmaker for engaging professionals to handle the vaccination exercise.

Leaders of Miyetti Allah and Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria and other Fulani cultural organizations in the six local government areas commended the senator for his enduring support.
