Senate Leader Ahmad Lawan, has flagged off free surgery and treatment for 600 hernia and hydrocelectomy patients from the six local governments of his Yobe North Senatorial zone.
The medical operations commenced concurrently after the flag-off at the Federal Medical Center Nguru and General Hospital Gashua yesterday. The LGs are Karasuwa, Nguru, Machina, Bade, Jakusko and Yusufari.
Speaking to newsmen, the senate leader said they had carefully selected weak and vulnerable people who could not afford the medical costs to benefit from the operations.
He said it was the massive intervention in the health sector by Governor Gaidam’s administration that motivated him to think in that direction.
“There is no administration in Yobe that has done so much for the health sector like the Gaidam administration. This motivated me to contribute to complement government efforts to provide affordable and accessible healthcare delivery to the doorstep of our people,” he said.
He said the foundation would partner experts to investigate the causes of two common diseases in the zone, kidney and hernia, to find preventive measures.
