Seminarian dies while acting Easter Passion play

A seminarian at Claratian Institute of Philosophy, of the Claratian University of Nigeria (CUN) Nekede, Owerri, has slumped and died while performing the Easter Passion play.

The deceased Suel Ambrose was a 25-year-old first-year student of Philosophy.

The Easter Passion play is a recreation of the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Some witnesses said the late Ambrose slumped while playing the role of St Peter when he denied Jesus Christ thrice.

According to one of the students, who identified himself as Mavis, the incident threw the whole school community into confusion. Mavis said the deceased fell on the floor and started bleeding.

He said first aid was administered to him before he was taken to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri where he died.

The incident put on hold all Easter activities and celebrations in the school.

The priest in charge of Students formation in the university, Fr Chukwuemeka Iheme, who confirmed the incident, said that he could only speak when authorised to do so.

A resident of the area, who gave his name as Charles, said that that was the second time a student had died in similar circumstances.

He said a student had died in the past while taking part in a jugging exercise.
