The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has distributed palliatives received from the federal government to vulnerable populations in all the 276 wards in the 23 LGAs of the state.

The Executive Secretary of the SEMA, Sir James Iorpuu, during the flag off of the distribution in Makurdi, said the palliatives were a lifeline for the most vulnerable citizens, stressing the need for collective responsibility to ensure they were distributed fairly and efficiently.

He said, “The palliatives we are distributing today came from the federal government through the the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). These vital food items are intended to reach the most vulnerable among us: widows; orphanages; the elderly; government schools, especially boarding schools; religious bodies and the physically challenged.

“The total number of items to be distributed is 17,940 bags of maize (50kg) and 4,132 bags of garri (25kg). Each ward will take 65 bags of maize and 15 bags of garri.”
