Muslims have been told to strive to acquire knowledge in order to properly practice Islam as exemplified by the Salaf, the first generations of followers which included Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) companions and those immediately after them.
Ustaz Suraj Alhaji Sabo Keffi, made the call at the end of the annual Ramadan tafsir programme organized by the Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) with its national headquarters in Jos, held Saturday at the FHA Estate Mosque, Maitama , Abuja.
Ustaz Suraj, Deputy Chairman of the Izala Ulama’u Council, Nasarawa State chapter, who led a 12-man team of scholars that conducted tafsir in the FCT, said Islam is a knowledge based religion that preaches peace, adding that it abhors compulsion and all acts of terrorism which result from ignorance of the Qur’an and Hadith.
In a communiqué it issued at the occasion, JIBWIS called on the federal government to put in place more palliative measures to assuage the economic hardships in the country.
It said, “The federal, state and local governments should imbibe the spirit of justice, equity and fairness in dealing with the citizenry irrespective of political, religious, regional and tribal affiliations as this will give the people a sense of belonging.”
The communiqué, read by Adamu Bawa Chinade, Assistant Secretary, JIBWIS, FCT, Abuja, said while the organization appreciated “government effort and commitment in tackling the scourge of insurgency  and other forms of insecurity, more needed to be done to tackle the spate of militancy, kidnapping, armed robbery and other social vices in the county.”
