SEDC: Igbos ‘ll pay you back in 2027 – Ashara, Amuwo-Odofin Vice Chairman tells President Tinubu

Vice Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Mrs Maureen Ashara, has sad that Igbos would not forget President Bola Ahmed Tinubu good works come 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview, Ashara who is the first Igbo person to attain the office of Vice Chairman in the local government said the approval of South East Development Commission (SEDC), would go a very long way in transforming the south east geo political zone.

She said, “Well, without mincing words, I want to say that the commission is the best thing that has happened to the Igbos since the dawn of this democracy in 1999.My reason for saying this is because political appointments benefits only a few people, that is those appointed, the members of his immediate family and may be his relatives. But the development commission would empower millions of Igbos because it would create infrastructure and businesses which would bring about jobs.

“So we appreciate the president for approving this for us and we would reciprocate with our votes during the 2027 general election. Igbos are a tribe that practices gratuity and the only way we can thank the president for this good gesture will be to massively support his re-election in 2027 so that he would continue with the good works he is doing in different parts of the country.

“Again, remember that recently President Tinubu was in Enugu to commissions some of the projects that Governor Peter Mbah executed and there he made a firm commitment that his administration will complete the Eastern Rail line connecting Port Harcourt to Maiduguri. The President also pledged that his administration would support the development of the Anambra Basin as a significant energy reserve. The basin is estimated to hold up to 1 billion barrels of oil and 30 billion cubic feet of gas. The rail link has potential to boost Nigeria’s non –oil exports and economic growth. So, I can say that Igbos have not had it this good since the dawn of this democracy.

“What I can tell you is that President is threading where past presidents have feared to thread. We know leaders by their capability to take bold decisions. Past leaders knew that the country was going in the wrong direction but they were not courageous enough to stir the ship of the country to the right direction. I am aware that some of the reforms are painful but what we are having now is like a sick person taking a bitter medicine. Though the medicine is bitter, in the end it will heal the whole body. The economy was already suffering from stage four cancer before the president come on board in 2023 and when cancer gets to stage four, recovery becomes an impossibility because the sickness have spread to all the other organs of the body. So the only way to save the country from dying is taking bold and courageous decisions which is what informed the decision to remove petrol subsidy and also float the naira. I want to assure Nigerians that sooner than later we will begin to reap the reward of this reforms.”
