Security votes is a guise for looting—Kano PDP guber candidate

The Kano state Governorship Candidate under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Abba K. Yusuf has disclosed that he would end security votes in Kano if given the mandate to govern the state in the forthcoming election.

He described security votes as a guise under which state governors loot funds meant for public projects, saying his government would rather use the money to invest in the state’s human capital through overseas scholarships to students as exemplified by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso when he was the governor of the state.

Addressing newsmen late Saturday at an event organized by his supporters to mark his 56th Birthday in Kano, the gubernatorial hopeful urged Nigerians to vote out the All Progressives Congress (APC) as they have nothing tangible to offer Nigerian masses.

“It is no longer news that the so called ‘security votes’ is just an avenue for siphoning public funds to personal pockets. The huge amount of money provided to the governors under security votes are unaccounted for, as such it ends up into individuals’ pockets at the detriment of the masses. We don’t believe in this recklessness and we are determined to end it here.

“When Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso came to power for the first time as the governor of Kano state in 1999 to 2003 he didn’t use security votes for personal gains, he used the money in creating jobs for the youth, giving scholarship to indigent students. Kwankwaso blocked all those leakages of financial flow and today we are seeing the benefits. As such we are saying we do not believe in security votes, it is just a way of stealing funds and we shall do away with it” he said.
