Ahead of resumption of schools, the FCT Police Commissioner, we CP Benneth Igweh, said a joint security team that comprised of police, army brigade command, civil defence corps, civilian taskforce, vigilantes and hunters as well as drones will be deployed across both secondary and primary schools for security purpose.

CP Igweh stated this at the stakeholders’ forum on the security of schools in Abuja and training of the Schools Protection Squad (SPS) held at the Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja on Tuesday.

City & Crime reports that the two-day training with the theme “Strengthening Security Resilience And Integration of Host Communities In The Protection of Education,” was organised by the Safe Schools Initiative under the police IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

The police commissioner disclosed that both the private and public schools including those in rural communities in the FCT had already been mapped out for adequate security.

“Besides, we are also bringing in the civilian JTF, vigilantes and hunters into the Safe Schools Initiative. And we are also going to deploy drones that will be going round the schools to ensure security.’’

He said the command had already informed all the principals and head masters of LEA primary schools, including private schools across the six area councils to support and cooperate with the joint security team during the exercise.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, represented by the Director of Security Services of the FCTA, Mr Adamu Buba Gwari, while declaring the training open, noted that the Safe Schools Initiative would go a long way to ensure security of not only the students/pupils but also safeguard the schools’ properties in the territory.
