Wives of Nigerian security operatives under the auspices of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), on Tuesday handed over empowerment and business start-up packages to wives of dead officers.
The President of DEPOWA and wife of the Chief of Defence Staff, Mrs Bolanle Olonisakin, who handed over the packages at a graduation ceremony of 39 students in Abuja, noted that COVID-19 had brought more hardship to the society.

She explained that they decided to train the beneficiaries on their choice vocation at DEPOWA Skill Acquisition Centre in partnership with SMEDAN to alleviate the suffering of families of fallen heroes.
She said of the total number of 382 students, 136 were widows and 14 vulnerable youth all of who had graduated from the centre.
She urged the service chiefs not to relent in supporting the association.
Delivering a lecture, the Director-General of SMEDAN, Dr Dikko Umaru Radda, who was represented by the Director of Partnership and Coordination of the agency, Friday Opara, said many employees were being treated like slaves at various organisations because they didn’t have the mind of becoming the boss on their own.
