Security operatives impound N600m worth of petrol in 4 years

 

Authority in charge of Sector 2 of the Joint Border Patrol (JBP) in the South-West region, at the weekend said it impounded over N600 million worth of petroleum products in four years in the region.

It said the petroleum products were about to be smuggled through the borders. It also intercepted over N176.4 million worth of goods in February 2023.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the coordinator of the unit, Customs Comptroller Mohammed Hassan, said the seizures were from 2019 to date with products worth N600,175,814,12, recorded.

Hassan also listed other seizures made in February 2023 to include 2,696 plastic kegs of 30 litres of petrol, 3,604 bags of 50kg parboiled rice with 20 means of conveyance.

“We will continue to utilize our intelligence gathering techniques and deploy our strength and available logistics to ensure success in the battle against smugglers and economic saboteurs,” he noted.

The JBP is coordinated from the Office of the National security Adviser (ONSA) with members comprising army, navy, customs, immigration, police, and state security service.
