It was learnt that the governor’s convoy was moving slowly without blaring a siren, when the hoodlums who mistook him for prominent personality, allegedly fell a tree to block the road in an attempt to rob motorists and commuters of their belonging.

Source said the hoodlums who laid siege on the road, on sighting the convoy, started firing gunshot apparently to scare the road users before carrying out their operation, but the security operatives attached to the Governor responded and the hoodlums fled into bush.

It was also learnt that the incident brought the convoy to a halt for about 10 minutes before proceeding to a meeting with Council of Dukes (Enigie) in the area.

A security source in the convoy who decline to be named told our reporter that the robbers thought it was a VIP on the road because the governor was not blaring siren and was moving slowly.

” But we repelled the hoodlums and they fled into the bush,”

Efforts to get confirmation from the state police spokesperson, DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, was unsuccessful as calls placed on his phone were not answered.

Daily Trust gathered that the spot where the incident happened is a haven for kidnappers and armed robbers.
