Security chiefs speak on Saturday’s elections after meeting with Buhari

Security chiefs, Tuesday, said that they are prepared for Saturday’s governorship and state house of assembly elections, warning trouble makers to have a rethink.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct the govenorship election in 29 states on Saturday.

The security chiefs met with president Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting, held behind closed doors, lasted for two and a half hours.

The meeting was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadique.

Others are, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan- Ali, Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahaman Dambazau ,Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar, acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the  Director General of Department for State Service (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

Breifing State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting, acting IGP, Mohammed Adamu, said they were prepared for the saturday’s elections.

Urging Nigerians to come out and cast their votes on Saturday, he said the security provided during the presidential and national assembly elections was being enhanced.

The police boss said more security measures were being taken to address the challenges recorded in the last elections.

He said they have resolved to deal ruthlessly with anybody who wants to disrupt the elections.

“We are advising those who want to disrupt the elections, to have a rethink,” he said.
