Security has been beefed up in Damaturu and its environs ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Yobe state this morning.
Daily Trust observed that armed security personnel were deployed to strategic areas in the town, while others patrolled the streets in hilux vans and armoured tanks.
The busy streets and highways in the town, especially Maiduguri road, where the president’s aircraft would land has been blocked. Shops and businesses along the roads have also been shut down.
Malam Yusuf Balube, a politician, complained that preventing people to welcome the president would portray his political popularity in bad light.
"You can see that all the roads are deserted, people did not come out because of the overzealousness of our security operatives", he said
This morning when our reporter filed this report, the president was yet to arrive Damaturu.
