Kaduna State Government, in a statement on Saturday, said troops under the auspices of “Operation Thunder Strike” had rescued two kidnapped women close to Gadanin Gwari, Gwagwada District of Chikun Local Government Area after they were abducted on their way to their farms.

The state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, stated that police personnel had, in a separate operation, also rescued two persons who were abducted at Kurmin Idon axis of Kaduna-Kachia Road in Kajuru Local Government Area while a third victim escaped on his own.

Speaking on how the women were rescued, Aruwan said, based on the operational feedback to the Kaduna state government, the troops on patrol had tracked down the criminals and engaged them in a firefight, forcing them to abandon their captives and run for dear lives.

He said, after securing the women, the troops pursued the bandits and destroyed many bandits’ camps along the way.

He added that the bandits were eventually trapped in Gajina settlement also in the local government and three of the kidnappers were apprehended while the rescued women have returned to their homes.

The commissioner also said the troops of “Operation Thunder Strike” and the newly inducted troops of the Nigerian Army Women Corps have continued aggressive patrols along the Kaduna-Abuja highway, adding that the patrol has been hitch-free, with no incidents recorded as on Friday.
