Secondus: I received only 2 cars from Jide Omokoari

Deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, says he collected only two, not 23, cars from Jide Omokoari contrary to allegations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He has denied any truth to EFCC allegations that he took 23 exotic cars purchased from proceeds of oil swap.

"My friend of over twenty years gave me two cars and buses gifts staggered between 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and these are verifiable facts from the waybill and manifest from Skymit Motors Ltd. The vehicles were given to me as gift as he, Jide Omokoari can attest to this,” said Secondus in a statement.

"I was also made to understand before receiving the gifts of the vehicles that it was from credit arrangements that Jide Omokoari had with the Skymit Motors.

"There is no truth in the EFCC allegations that I collected 23 exotic cars purchased from proceeds of oil swap. These facts can be cross checked from my friend, Jide Omokoari, as he never made such claim, contrary to some media reports."

He was granted administrative bail on Wednesday night, after spending eight days in EFCC custody over the allegations.

He called his arrest and detention by the EFCC a part of political intimidation by the APC-led government against opposition parties.

He also said giving administrative bails with stringent conditions by the EFCC would not help the anti corruption mantra of the present administration.

"How would you expect a civil servant to own a building in high brow areas of Maitama and Asokoro, if not promoting corrupt practices in the name of fighting corruption?" he queried.
