“This year, we are re-affirming our commitment to this noble sporting event, and all that it has to offer. We have taken our support a notch higher by introducing some exciting changes around the event.

“The prize purse has increased significantly which is a further demonstration of our commitment to make the Classic more competitive and attract the absolute best of golfers to perform at this stage,” he disclosed.

Also speaking, Femi Olagbenro, Tour Commissioner for PG Tour, said participants will come from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Senegal and Togo, adding that the aim was to bridge the gap of insufficient tournaments for golfers.

He disclosed that the prize money would be N20 million this time, a one hundred per cent increment from the first edition.

Olagbenro also said the first position will cart away N3 million while the top 30 golfers will win cash prizes.

He said the professionals will play the Gross format while the amateurs will play Nett.

On his part, the Captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Ibrahim Babayo, said golf had become a tool for international business and tourism, saying Saudi Arabia was leveraging its foreign policy and international diplomacy on the game.

He said the golf club wants to use the game to change the narratives about Nigeria and project the city of Abuja.

Francis Epe of the Ikoyi Club 1938 Lagos won the maiden edition of eTranzact Golf Classic.
