The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has raised an alarm over an alleged plot to burn down the office of the Kogi State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lokoja.
But the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council said the security authorities should hold SDP responsible if anything happens to INEC Office.
The Director General, New Media, Muri/Sam Campaign Council of the SDP, Isaiah Davies Ijele, who made the allegation in a statement at the weekend said the party was concerned that some people working for the APC wanted to burn down the building housing sensitive materials in the last gubernatorial election on the guise of a fire outbreak and with the aim of damaging all evidence of rigging.
“It has come to our notice via grapevine that there is an urgent need for security to be beefed around the Kogi State INEC office in order to avert the sinister plot to burn down the office by mandate bandits.

“We are calling on the relevant security formations to swing into action to prevent the burning down of that office and to secure all the electoral materials used in the just concluded gubernatorial election in Kogi State,” the statement read in part.
The party added that should anything happen to the sensitive materials the court already ordered it to inspect, the APC-ruling government should be held responsible without delay.
However, the Director of Media and Publicity/spokesman for the APC Campaign Council, Kingsley Fanwo said, “No amount of propaganda can help their baseless, senseless, unsubstantiated claims.
“The party was convinced that the false alarm raised by the SDP over a purported planned attack on the INEC office was to cover up the party’s sinister motive of razing down the INEC Office and turning around to blame it on the APC.”
APC also called on security agencies to fortify security around the offices of INEC across the state to nip in the bud the move of the opposition party.
