The Osun State Police Command, Osogbo, yesterday arraigned two scrap dealers, Salami Kabiru and Kasali Kolawole, at a magistrate court in Osogbo for allegedly stealing cars.
The prosecutor, Inspector Rasaq Olayiwola, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence at Atelewo, Osogbo.
Olayiwola said that the accused persons stole a Peugeot 406 car with registration number KSF 439 EV and an Audi car with registration number SAP 494 AA, both valued at N1.85 million, properties of Lawal Isiaka and Adetunji Taiwo respectively.
He added that the accused persons knew the cars were stolen and maliciously damaged the Audi car.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them.
The defence counsel, Okobe Najite, applied for the bail of his clients in the most liberal terms.
But Olayiwola opposed the application, saying granting them bail would be sending a bad signal to the society and the defendants could jump the bail.
The magistrate, Opeyemi Badmus, admitted the accused persons to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties each in like sum, and adjourned the case till September 10, 2020.
