Scores injured as tanker crashes into vehicles in Lagos

Scores of people were on Wednesday injured in an auto crash involving a tanker and several vehicles at the Ojodu-Berger area of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.


The tanker carrying 33,000 litres of petrol had a break failure while descending the Otedola Bridge, before crashing into the vehicles. The driver ran away immediately the vehicle came to a stop 

Many of the injured victims, including a pregnant woman, were rushed to the hospital by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASEMBUS), while fire service men from the Alausa Fire Station battled to dampen the petroleum product thereby preventing any fire outbreak.

Mr Razaq Fadipe, Director, Lagos State Fire Service, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, said: "The tanker crashed into many vehicles while descending the Otedola Bridge, causing multiple injuries.

"I received a distress call about the incident at noon and immediately deployed fire trucks from Alausa to the area. They are on ground to ensure that there is no outbreak of fire as the tanker spilled all its content onto the road."
