There was heightened tension along the Oshodi-Mile 2 expressway, Lagos, yesterday, following a bloody clash between officials of the Lagos State Taskforce and commercial motorcycle riders also known as Okada riders in the area.
It was learnt that the Taskforce officials, who were enforcing the state traffic law at the second Rainbow bus stop on the Mile 2-Oshodi expressway, had impounded many motorcycles when the crisis started.
It was gathered that the commercial motorcycle operators whose bikes had been seized regrouped and started attacking the Taskforce officials.
One of the commercial motorcycle riders, Ibrahim Saidu, said over 500 motorcycles were seized from them by the Taskforce officials and that they have vowed to resist any harassment from them under the guise of enforcing the state traffic law.
“We will fight them to finish if that is what they want,” he said.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the fracas, however, said normalcy has returned to the area.
