School wins Lagos robotics competition

Ojo Senior High School in Lagos state has won the grand finale of the State Final Robotics Competition.

The school emerged winner with 190 points, beating Ajeromi Ifelodun Senior High School and Epe Senior Grammar School Epe to the second and third positions respectively.

For the Junior category, Igbo Owu Junior Secondary School, Mushin emerged champion with 59.5points while Oriwu Junior Model College, Ikorodu, and Lagos State Junior Model College, Igbookuta clinched the second and third positions respectively.

Commenting, the Director, Science and Technology, Mrs. Grace Akinfoyewa explained that this year’s Robotics State Finals was contested by over 100 schools, which involved intra and inter districts preliminaries. It later produced 24 schools that battled at the grand finale. The six schools that made it to the finals will represent Lagos at the national finals of the robotics competition in Abuja.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo noted that the annual competition is an initiative of Lagos to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics education in Lagos schools.

Ability to build and assemble a robot according to her helps a student to proffer solution to an identified problem within the environment.

It also stimulates critical thinking in students to identify a challenge and think out-of-the-box for immediate and technology-based solutions.
