Scavenger kills boy in A/Ibom

A scavenger has killed a boy, Edikan Edoho, in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State following a disagreement.

The incident followed the ban on the activities of scavengers by the Akwa Ibom State Government on January 4, after the death of a young man who was stabbed to death by a scavenger in Uyo.

Speaking at the home of the deceased’s family in Afaha Eket village while condoling with them, the chairman of Eket, Mr Akaniyene Tommy, condemned the attack.

Mr Tommy sued for calm and called on all the youths in the area to avoid any act of retaliation as it would fuel the crisis.

On his part, the youth leader of the Hausa community in Eket, Alhaji Ibrahim Iliya, condemned the murder of Edikan Edoho by the scavenger.

The police spokesman in the state, SP Odiko Macdon, said the suspect was in detention.
