A scavenger, identified simply as Saifullahi, was said to have on Monday afternoon hung himself in his room over hardship in Shata village in Bosso LGA of Niger State.

The late Saifullahi was said to owe N250,000 which he tried to pay back but could not.

The corpse was reportedly found hanging in his room by a tea seller, Murtala, who went to collect his N150 debt of a cup of tea the victim bought from him that Monday morning before leaving for his farm.

The tea seller said, “He bought N150 tea from me before leaving for his farm and told me to come for my money when he returned. So, it was when I went to collect my money that I saw his body hanging in his room. So, I raised alarm.”

The late Saifullahi’s girlfriend, one Rebecca, said, “There was a day he came to our house and I discovered he was disturbed. So, I asked him to share his worry with me and he said he didn’t want to share it with anybody but because of the love he had for me he was going to tell me. So, he told me that he owed someone in Zungeru N250,000. Aside that, he didn’t tell me anything.”
