SARS bows to pressure, frees Rep Lado

The Federal Special Armed Robbery Squad (F-SARS), Abuja, an arm of the Nigeria Police Force, has released the detained member of the House of Representatives, Abdullahi Lado (APC, Niger), who rejoined his colleagues in Thursday’s plenary session.

Speaker Yakubu Dogara had, at the commencement of plenary, enquired if the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had complied with directives by the leadership of the House to release Lado within 12 hours.

“Where is Lado? I want Lado to use his mouth and tell us his experiences,” the Speaker directed.

According to Lado, “Instead of lamenting my ordeal with the Nigeria Police, I only rise to thank my honorable colleagues. I thank you very much. But I want to say that the reason behind my arrest was purely political, especially with regard to political activities in my constituency.”

Addullahi Lado, who was detained four days ago currently represents Guraja/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency of Niger State.

Recall that the House of Representatives had on Wednesday threatened to summon IGP, Ibrahim Idris, if Lado was not released within 12 hours.

The lawmakers had condemned the arrest as not only illegal but also “politically motivated.”

However, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had reported that Rep Lado and the current Chairman of Suleja Local Government, Abdullahi Maje, vied for the Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency primary election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), after which his ordeal reportedly began.
