Sarkin Fulani of Ilorin, Usman Adamu Hardo, has regained his freedom nearly a week after he was taken by armed men last Thursday.
His brother, Kabir Labar, the Sarkin Fulani of Abeokuta, told Daily Trust that Hardo was released by the abductors three days after his abduction.
He said Hardo was severely beaten and threatened with death.
“Usman Adamu is a great leader and has been assisting the security operatives in Kwara State in tackling the issues of kidnapping and insecurity.
“He was the brain behind the arrest of the recent kidnappers of some white expatriates who are on road project in Kwara state.
“The gunmen has been targeting him for long and they decided to kill him but with prayers and you know being him a good man God save him from them”, he said.
“He told us that after they picked him in Ilorin in their vehicle, they drove with him for several kilometres to some point along a bush and four motor cycles arrived and took him inside the bush.
He was blindfolded and bound until they reached their hideout after sunset on the day of his abduction.
” They treated him severally, shooting guns to scare him and were not given him food but only garri once in a while”
Labar added that the kidnappers released Hardo after debating whether to kill him.
“They then took him to the road side along Kainji Dam where some good citizens saw him and took him to a nearby police station at Mokwa in Niger state from where he was taken to hospital and onward to Ilorin on Monday.
He gave statement to police in Ilorin and visited the Emir of Ilorin before his return home.
It has been learnt the gunmen never contacted the Hardo family for ransom but went away with N11 million cash they found on him.
