Following the recent redeployment of top officers in the Nigerian Army and the hierarchy of the military, Major-General Jamil Sarham, has taken over as the 29th Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
He takes over from Major-General Adeniyi Oyebade who is retiring after 34 meritorious years of service.
General Sarham was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, before his appointment as the Commandant, NDA.
Addressing principal staff officers, deans and other heads in the academy during the handing over ceremony, the in-coming commandant pledged to produce quality junior leadership for the Nigerian Armed Forces.
He explained that the essence of the academy is to get sound junior leadership that will be able to help the Nigerian Armed Forces carry out its constitutional mandate.
He solicited for the support and cooperation of staff of the Academy to enable him discharge his duties effectively and efficiently.
He further urged the staff of the Academy to embrace team spirit in order to be able to succeed in the task of producing well-trained officer cadets for the nation saying, “We will try to see how we can together; produce junior leadership for the Nigerian Armed Forces.”
The outgoing Commandant, Major General Oyebade described the new Commandant as a seasoned and thorough-bred infantry officer, endowed with vast exposure and experience that will effectively pilot the affairs of the academy.
