The special prayers which were held immediately after the usual Friday Jumat prayer  at the National Mosque, Abuja was organised by the wife of the Vice President to seek divine intervention in the current state of insecurity in the country arising from recent bombings and killings of security men and other innocent citizens.

This was contained in a press release by Olusola Abiola, an Assistant Director in the Vice president’s office.

Giving the rationale for the special prayers during her visit to Kano last Wednesday, Hajiya Amina Sambo averred that there was need to seek the help of Almighty Allah, to complement the efforts of the Government of President Jonathan, so that peace and harmony can reign in the country. She used the occasion to call on the Muslim ummah and indeed all Nigerians to continue to pray for peace and unity of the country.

The special prayers session which was well attended by female public office holders and spouses of top Government functionaries and representatives of many female religious organisations were taken in Hausa, Arabic, Yoruba and English languages by women Islamic scholars for Almighty God to intervene in the situation for the crimes to stop and a change of heart for the perpetrators of these violent crimes from the path of violence.

Prayers were also said for the repose of the souls of those who died and for the families of the deceased. They likewise prayed for the President and other leaders for God’s wisdom, guidance and courage to steer the ship of state in this difficult time.

However, women under the auspices of different religious groups who attended the special prayers have promised to continue to pray for the nation and its leaders declaring that only God can reverse the current sad situation.

In the entourage of the wife of the Vice President were Senator Zainab Kure; Hon. Saudatu Sanni,former member of House of Representative; wives of Minister of Defence, Chief of Air Staff and Naval Staff, Head of the Civil Service of Federation and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
