The Grand-Mufti of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State and Chairman, Daarul-Uluumil-Islamiyyah Fi Naijiria (Duin Academy, Abuja), Dr. Rafee’ Busayree Al-Ijebuwi, has urged Muslims against arrogance, show-off and insolence, to gain the pleasure of Allah.
He gave the advice on Monday in the English translation of his Eid-el-Fitr Sermon delivered at Al-Huda Masjid (mosque) Byazhin, Kubwa in Abuja, titled ‘To prosper, be wary of insolence and showing off’.
“For you to prosper, avoid insolence and showing off as Allah enjoins in Suratul-Anfaal Qur’an 8:47 that:(…And be not like those who came forth from their homes in great exultation and, to be seen of men; while they still turn away from the way of Allah, for Allah comprehends what they do),” Dr. Al-Ijebuwi said.
He also urged Nigerians to be patient to acquire useful knowledge and, adhere to doing the right things at all times in their undertakings.
He said, “Let it be known that the country still encounters misgivings about a nationwide instability in spite of efforts of those in charge of security. You are to therefore cooperate among yourselves, each in the field of his own responsibility. Repent sincerely so that Allah will have mercy upon you.”
The Muslim cleric said that the gathering in for the post-Ramadan eid (special prayer) should remind them of the necessity to abide by the rules of Islam in Qur’ran and sunnah (teachings) of Prophet Muhammad.
He enjoined Muslims to observe the post-Ramadan six-day fasting in the month of Shawwal, which Prophet Muhammad made a tradition and which attract immense rewards.
He said, “Prophet Muhammad said: ‘Whosoever fasts in Ramadan and follows it with extra six days from Shawwal; then shall have a lifespan fasting reward, that is: 30×6=36×10=360 days making a complete calendar year.
“The reward equalizes fasting for the whole year round, and if this is done every year it brings about a life span reward.”
He urged Muslims and Nigerians to draw themselves closer to Allah with more righteous deeds, ask His for mercy, forgiveness and total liberation from hell fire.
“Humble yourselves before Him and beg for the removal of calamities from the world. Ask Him also to bestow security and stability on the country,” Dr. Al-Ijebuwi said.
