Salah’s penalty saves Egypt from Mozambique embarrassment

Mohamed Salah scored a penalty awarded after full-time to help Egypt secure a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in their AFCON 2023 Group B encounter.

Quickfire goals from Witi and Clesio in the second half had turned the game in favour of Mozambique who had gone behind to Mostafa Mohamed’s second-minute strike.

Mozambique thought they had claimed a famous victory- a first in 13 AFCON matches- but the video assistant referee dashed their hope when it awarded the Pharaohs a penalty after referee Dahane Beida had blown the full-time whistle.S

Salah expertly dispatched the spotkick to break their opponent’s heart and share the points.

Egypt face Ghana in their next group match while Mozambique will try again for three points against Cape Verde.
