He was said to have been arrested for criticising the Buhari government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on insecurity challenges.
However, hours after his release, the sacked media aide took to his Twitter handle to appreciate people who prayed for him while in detention.
“Alhamdulilah, I’ve regained my freedom. I’ve nothing but love to all those who added their voice one way or the other during my trying times, especially the #FreeDawisu ARMY & others who played a critical role in my release, and especially my sister Aisha Tanko Yakasai, family & close friends. Thank You from the bottom of my heart.
“As expected, I have thousands of messages. Forgive me if I miss yours; I will try and reply all to the best of my ability within the coming days, but just know that I love and appreciate you all. Your thunderous vibrations reached the walls of my detention; it was massive. God bless,” he wrote.
Thousands of social media users took to their various handles and accounts to demand the release of Salihu.
The campaign for his release trended on Twitter with a hashtag #FreeDawisu.
