S/West PDP prepares for 2019, endorse Northern Chairman

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the South West zone besieged Ibadan, Oyo State capital, on Wednesday in their preparation for the 2019 political agenda just as they endorsed the retention of the party chairmanship position to the Northern region.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the PDP South West Stakeholders Meeting, the party leaders justified their position in conceding the PDP national chairmanship to the North stating that it was done to boost the party status in the North.

 “A North that is further weakened by being denied the position of the National Chairman of the party will feel marginalized; and reconciling a further disillusioned North will be an arduous task for a party in opposition” as stated in the communiqué.

The South West PDP Stakeholders who claimed to be over 70 per cent of the functional leaders of the party in the zone insisted that “it is unfair to the masses of the geo-political zone for anyone to insinuate that the present position in canvassing that the party’s National Chairman should come from the North amounts to pushing away good things coming to the region.”
